A Real Role for Immunotherapy in the Treatment of Advanced Prostate Cancer

Immunotherapy has a major and expanding role in the treatment of cancer, including advanced prostate cancer. Over time there have been a number of naysayers as the immunotherapy Provenge has played the role whipping boy by critics. The common criticism leveled at Provenge can be summed up simply, “It doesn’t work.” The plain truth is that this criticism is not true. Provenge does extend life, but it does not affect a man’s PSA nor does it affect radiologic progression. However, it does extend life, the most important factor for us with advanced prostate cancer. Why is Provenge (and immunotherapy) not [...]

The Well Reviewed Guide to Advanced Prostate Cancer (A Survivor Perspective) Has Been Updated and is Now Available for a free Download

Somehow I have been negligent and not let people know that I have written and posted a major update of my “Guide to Advanced Prostate Cancer.” As in the past, it is available as a free download from the Malecare web site. Anyone reading the first edition will be surprised when you see how many changes and updates this edition has included. It now has a very extensive conversation about living in the world as a cancer survivor as well as more [...]

A Correction of A Prior Post – How About Entering the Prostvac-VF Trail and Then Have Provenge?

On March 4th I wrote a post which included a suggestion that combining Provenge and the clinical trial of Prostvac-VF might provide an interesting one-two punch against advanced prostate cancer.  In the post I suggested that it could be interesting to have Provenge and then move immediately on to Prostvac. This was an error, I reversed the suggested order and instead should have recommended that first you enter the Prostvac trial and then upon its completion take Provenge. Why these important changes in the sequencing order?  Simple, to qualify for the Prostvac trial you must be Provenge naïve (never had [...]
